"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill The Kennedy Team partners with select non-profit organizations in order to help raise funds for important causes. We believe it’s very important to give back to the community that gives to us! There are many great non-profit organizations in our community with lots of needs, which can sometimes make it difficult deciding which one could use our help the most. Although, we support many other organizations not mentioned below, we have a personal passion for the following organizations: Alzheimer's Association - www.alz.org What is Alzheimer's? Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder named for German physician Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906. Scientists have learned a great deal about Alzheimer’s disease in the century since Dr. Alzheimer first drew attention to it. Today we know that Alzheimer’s is a progressive and fatal brain disease. As many as 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal. Today it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. For more information, see Warning Signs and Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. Would you please join us in supporting the Alzheimer's Association? Besides much needed donations for ongoing medical research, you can help by adding a purple ribbon to your blog or website. Caring.com will donate $10.00 to the Alzheimer's Association for each site which displays the purple ribbon. You can shop for Alzheimer Association support items. You can email Congress directly from this link and tell our representatives to increase research funding and support Alzheimer programs. You can volunteer to participate in safe clinical trials which help us to understand the complexities of the human brain and its memory. Please join us in our support for an Alzheimer's cure. ------------------------------------------------------ Humane Society Did you know that one female dog and her offspring can produce as many as 67,000 puppies in six years? (ASPCA) Prevention of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect are not the only heart-wrenching battles the Humane Society works to abolish on a daily basis. Countless unnamed volunteers and Humane Society employees around the country work to educate the public on the benefits of spaying and neutering, animal behavior modification issues and the inhuman use of animals for sport while fighting to keep county shelters open despite budget cuts. Jeff and I support the Humane Society . For a small membership fee of $25 a year, you too can support the Humane Society and receive their award winning "All Animals" quarterly magazine with stories and articles which will lift your soul. It is estimated that 4 to 6 million cats and dogs are euthanized in this country per year. Won't you donate .07 cents a day to help the Humane Society continue their work with animals when so few will? And please remember to spay or neuter your pet. If you are in the Hot Springs area and wish to contribute to the Humane Society of Garland County they are in dire need of canned cat food, dry dog food, Kong toys, cat litter and more . The Marine Patrol enforces the state’s boating laws and conducts searches and rescues on the waters of Garland County. A non-profit association was formed in September, 2003 to assist the Marine Patrol in the purchasing of new equipment, boater safety educational materials and to help fund training for the officers. Since this association was formed, the Marine Patrol has been able to purchase more police boats, buy additional equipment which enabled aid to the boating public, ie. power packs used to jump start boaters with dead batteries; complete assortment of running light bulbs given to boaters with burned out bulbs, etc.. Funds were also used to equip each patrol boat with a defibrillator and first aid supplies. Thanks to the Lake Hamilton Marine Patrol Association, the number of thefts, and the number of boating accidents and fatalities have decreased tremendously. Donations to the Patrol are welcome.
